My traits

“Maycomb’s Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump in what was once a Negro cabin. The cabin’s plank walls were supplemented with sheets of corrugated iron, its roof shingled with tin cans hammered flat, so only its general shape suggested its original design; square, with four tiny rooms opening onto a shotgun hall, the cabin rested uneasily upon four irregular lumps of limestone. Its windows were merely open spaces in the walls, which in the summertime were covered with greasy strips of cheesecloth to keep out the varmints that feasted on Maycomb’s refuse” (193).

“Mr. Robert Ewell?’ asked Mr. Gilmer. ‘That’s m’name cap’n.’ said the witness… ‘Are you the father of Mayella Ewell?’ was the next question. ‘Well if I ain’t I can’t do nothing about it now, her ma’s dead,’ was the answer.”(195)

The second thing happened to Judge Taylor...Judge Taylor savored his Sunday night hour alone in his big house...reading the writings of Bob Taylor...One Sunday night...Judge Taylor's attention was wrenthed from the page by an irritating scratching noise...the scratching noise was coming from the rear of the house... A shadow on the corner of the house caught his eye, and that was all he saw of his visitor...The third thing happened to Helen Robinson, Tom's widow...Mr. Link Deas made a job for Helen. He didn't need her, but he said he felt right bad about the way things turned out...Calpurnia said it was hard on Helen, because she had to walk nearly a mile out of her way to avoid the Ewells, who, according to Helen, 'chucked at her' the first time she tried to use the public road" (285).

"Well, i was sayin' Mayella was raisin' this holy racket so i dropped m'load and run run as fast as i could but i run into th' fence, but when i got distangled i run up to th' window and i seen-"...."-i seen that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!"

"Mr. Ewell looked confusedly at the judge. ' Well, Mayella was raisin’ this holy racket so I dropped m’ load and run as fast as I could but I run into th’ fence, but when I got distangled I run up to the window and I seen-.” Mr. Ewell’s face grew Scarlet. He stood up and pointed his finger at Tom Robinson. “I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin on my Mayella!” (196)
